Upcycled Rag Yarn from Sheets
Upcycled Rag Yarn or torn strip yarn is a fun upcycle for all the seamed shirts, sheets, curtains and even t-shirts you own.

Upcycled Rag Yarn

I prefer rag yarn to continuous flat yarn. All you need is sheets, curtains, shirts and a pair of scissors.

Cut away all the seamed edges. Remember to leave a small allowance to roll them into matching beads!!

Cut start points for your strips at least 1 1/2 inches apart along the bottom. For bigger needles you will need to make your start cuts further apart.

Grab a cut on either side and pull in opposite directions! Keep grabbing the strips at the end of a new tear, if you are ripping a larger sheet or curtain.

You will end up with many long strips and threads and little pieces of torn fabric. You can save the threads and little pieces of fabrics for making recycled paper beads or fabric beads.

To connect your strips cut a small eye hole in the end of one strip (old strip, white in photo) by folding the tip over and cutting with scissors.

Do the same for the next strip (new strip, blue in photo). Always put the old strip through the new strips eye hole first.

Put the opposite end of the new strip through the old strips eye hole and pull gently until tight.

You can add to your first strip in the same manner if you roll your strips into a Center Pull Ball.
